I’m Chris, owner & Managing Director of The Pantry Malton. What started as a simple love for good coffee, honest food, and community has grown into something much more meaningful — a welcoming space where people can connect, slow down, and enjoy the best of what Malton has to offer.

 

My journey into hospitality began long before The Pantry Malton (and Scampston). Over the years, I’ve worked across every side of the café world — from pot washing at Castle Howard, early mornings baking to managing busy attraction restaurants and leading passionate teams. Each experience shaped how I see this business: it’s not just about serving great food, but about creating moments that matter.

 

Looking ahead, my focus is on growth that never loses its heart. I want The Pantry to continue being a local favourite while exploring new ways to champion sustainability, support local suppliers, and bring people together.

 

This café isn’t just a business to me — it’s a reflection of everything I believe in: quality, community, and genuine hospitality.

For those unsure, The Pantry Malton is the refreshed name for our Malton cafe, having previously been known as Lutt & Turner and YO Bakehouse. Its all pretty much the same as you'll have come to know. Just different by name. When we opened The Pantry at Scampston in 2024, it just made sense to have both under the same name umbrella. YO Bakehouse however, now operates as an independent wholesale bakery and is located a matter of minutes from us. We continue to bring you their products in the form of bread and cakes on our menu!
